Travel vacations come in a thousand varieties,
from beach relaxation to the thrill of downhill skiing.
Then there's the laid back family holiday that can be
immensely satisfying.

The Great Plains States provide a great place for
wholesome family fun. Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, and
other plains states provide opportunities for relaxation
amid beautiful environs. It's a wonderful region to
explore with a recreational vehicle, so get your maps
out and follow along to chart your next trip.

Kansas: Here's a great place to enjoy family activities
like visits to theme parks, zoos, and museums.

Museums are plentiful in Topeka, where the slower pace of
life will melt away stress. View displays of vintage
aircraft at the Combat Air Museum, or stroll through the
Kansas Museum of History, Curtis House, and Kansas
National Guard Museum. Nearby in Lecompton, tour the
Constitution Hall State Historic Site.

In Wichita, glance back at the past with visits to the
Museum of Ancient Treasures or the village at the Old
Cowtown Museum. The Kansas Aviation Museum is also
noteworthy.

Nebraska: While there are plenty of museums here, there's
much more. Lincoln has lots of activities for children,
including the enormous Children's Museum. And if you are
a golfer, Omaha holds a big and welcome surprise -- it
has more public courses than any other city in America.

Kearny offers more history. The route of the early
pioneers is commemorated at the Platte River Road Archway
Monument. Historical markers honoring the pioneers abound
here.

Oklahoma: The kids will love this. At the Oklahoma City
Zoo and Botanical Garden, they can stroll with
butterflies, see the big kitties in the Cat Forest, get
up close to gorillas, and see lots more wildlife.

This state is the place for outdoor fun in the Wild West
tradition. The family can roam like cowboys through the
salt plains, mountains and sand dunes.

The Great Plains offers more than history against
beautiful scenery, though. You'll find genuine and
friendly people, wonderful food and interesting
festivals. It's the kind of place that makes families
feel welcome and relaxed while soaking up new information
about how this country was built.
