The present times have seen the phenomenon of people
greeting each other on special occasions by giving greeting
cards. So many greeting cards are in fashion these days
that allegation of inventing an occasion has been made from
time to time on the greetings card industry. But the truth
lies somewhere in between. People also like to give and
receive cards. It gives a semblance of recognition to the
one receiving it.

But wouldn't it be nice to give something really special,
not something straight off the shelves but something that
comes with more thought and love. This is where making
greeting cards comes in. Home made gifts and cards are
always so much more personal and caring than shop bought
items.

This is an activity, which the kids will also enjoy. They
like to pass time in coloring and decorating. If you cut
and paste an attractive picture for them, they would love
to add color to it. They would be keen to make decorative
borders and make the card more beautiful. Pasting a
picture, which is smaller than the card, can also add to
the appeal of the card. It also gives the child an
opportunity to use his imagination while making borders.
The child can use complementary colors to enhance its
loveliness.

Homemade cards would be received with much happiness to
anyone you give them to. Do not bother about its size or
how it looks. The recipient would love even a small card
nicely made. Here size does not matter. What matters is the
feeling with which an individual has put efforts in its
making.

You can use modern technology to make your card look
beautiful. For example, the drawings done by your children
could be scanned into the computer and beautified by you.
To fit it in the card you purchased, use word processing or
Photoshop software. You can give the card any border you
like and after testing it can print any number of copies or
make new ones. These cards would be personal and its every
recipient would love rest assured.

Once you have learned to save the picture and make a card,
the sky is the limit. You can use photos of family members,
pets, houses, etc. to personalize your card. If you are
sending a birthday card you can send it with a matching
picture. You may even inform friends about a change in
address with photograph of your new house.

It is not necessary to always use the computer. You can go
in for the traditional drawing and painting technique. If
you can't draw, no problem! If you can't then too you can
cut, paste and make wonderful patterns. A simple but
imaginative use of colors can make it an unusual and unique
card. Mix and match two colors, paste a few stars and a bit
of colored ribbon and you have a Christmas card. So, go
ahead, use your imagination and make your own cards.
