Airline Travel - Flying Is Safe Again

The aviation industry started in 1903 when the Orville
brothers took the first powered flight that lasted for a
whole twelve seconds. These twelve seconds
revolutionized the way we travel and this industry in the
ensuing years has seen many crests and nadirs. Till
1903, the whole concept of flying was limited to hot air
balloons. While, the idea of aviation took roots in the
eighteenth century, it could not make much progress
initially. Powered flight allowed human beings to feel
and see like birds and the changes this brought about
could not have been imagined by the inventors.

The first step towards commercial aviation was taken in
the 1920~s by Mercury Aviation Company. Since then, the
industry as a whole has blossomed and there are many
airlines that have come up. Aircraft have undergone
dramatic changes and advancement in technology has
contributed heavily to this industry. Flying is
definitely the fastest means to travel and this mode of
communication has relegated the word ~distance~ to a
distant horizon. This industry spends millions to ensure
safety of equipment, aircraft and passengers.

Akin to most industries, aviation too has gone through
its share of great moments and bad times. The initial
setback was when the first accidents started to happen.
The fatalities took people by a shock as they were not
prepared for accidents. However, in comparison to the
number of deaths on the highway, airline fatalities are
very few and this has proven to be a safe mode of travel.
However, the terrorist attacks of 9/11 changed the entire
security perspective of all airlines especially in the
United States. Now the security measures have been
heightened so that passengers are safe and do not have to
undergo the ordeal again.

Because you do have to go through metal detectors when
entering any airline terminal, you would want to make sure
you take everything that the device might pick up, out of
your pockets before going through. You also have to have
your baggage checked, so you don~t want to pack anything
that wouldn~t pass the inspection. After choosing the
airline you want, you need to book your flight, buy you
tickets and make any last minute arrangements necessary.
Then you are ready to pack your bags and set off on your
business or pleasure trip.

If you normally feel airsick, air-sickness pills may help
make your flight smoother. Especially if your flight is
longer than 2 hours, pills will make your air travel more
tolerable. Just remember to pop the pills 15-30 minutes
before flight take-off since they take that long to take
effect. Have a safe and smooth flight!
