Few things are more enjoyable (ore more necessary) in the
morning than a strong espresso to kick-start your day. Out
society is without doubt coffee-obsessed, with an
astonishing 79 percent of people over the age of eighteen
drinking at least one cup of joe on a daily basis. It is
no surprise coffee houses have been popping up on every
corner and the airwaves are inundated with coffee related
advertisements. But what exactly is this coffee craze
actually costing? The answer to that question may be quite
shocking and may make you want to rethink your purchasing
habits when it comes to the rich beverage.

Since 1999, approximately 110 million American have begun
drinking coffee on a daily basis. Additionally, coffee
drinkers are now drinking a greater volume of coffee as
sizes keep expanding. It is no surprise that coffee houses
dot much of America~s landscape and even gas stations and
fast food chains have jumped on the specialty coffee chains.
Instead of pulling into a truck stop to enjoy a cup of
coffee with the consistency of a mud hole, you are now able
to purchase everything from espressos to lattes while you
pump your gas.

There is unmistakably a demand for the beverage and
suppliers are scrambling to get their product
to the masses. One particular chain of coffee shops,
Starbucks, is undoubtedly leading the coffee frenzy and
recently reported fourth quarter profits for 2004 at over
70 million dollars. Considering that astonishing amount,
ask yourself how much of their profit includes your hard
earned cash.

You might not be realizing the sort of money you are
allowing coffee vendors to make. Even if you have a small
espresso costing two and a half dollars five days a week,
you are paying twelve and a half dollars for a week from
your hard-earned money. If you calculate the yearly
spending, the cost shoots up to $625. You would have never
thought that you could be spending that sort of amount on
having coffee. Also, if you have coffee ever day then the
monthly expenditure on the beverage would be $910.
Unbelievable, but true! Moreover, this is the cost for a
single person. If you go out to have a cup of coffee with
your spouse, then simply double up that cost, which is
almost $2000. This whopping figure must have gone unnoticed
for sure.

You could have done so much more with this
amount. You could have had a good vacation with that
amount, or you could have bought the latest electronic
gadget, or simply saved that money (do not forget to
calculate interest levied on it). So, the next time you
loosen your pockets to pay for coffee, just think how much
of coffee actually suits your budget. This has left you
thinking, isn't it?

However, quitting coffee is not an easy task but you can
always reduce the amount of coffee you drink. After all you
are spending your hard-earned money on it. One way is to
cut down coffee to thrice a week and reducing it further
with time. Another way of saving money is to settle for
plain Jane brew, or simply purchase a coffee machine and
install it at your home. With a wise investment, you will
allow yourself to have cheap coffee with a wonderful taste.
So, take action today and start thinking of the money you
can save by curbing your temptation.
